On 1 November 2001 I presented the first ever Winning Attitude seminar. We started marketing the event 2 months in advance, hoping to attract between 75 and 100 people. By 1 October 200 seats were already taken and we had to move the event to a larger auditorium. Still the bookings rolled in. Sitting on a bar stool on 1 November 2001 feeling very under prepared, I welcomed 320 delegates into the auditorium. I'm glad to tell you that the bar stool's now gone and the Winning Attitude's come a long way...
Having delivered the Winning Attitude in various forms repeatedly since 2001, I've come to realise that the title "The Winning Attitude", gives the impression of a rah-rah motivational "pumping-up" session. The talk itself, and the feedback from my delegates indicates quite the opposite. In fact, the Winning Attitude is specifically designed for sustained motivation. A number of steps are put in place to insure that the message is retained by delegates and that they have the tools to implement the principles in to their lives. This is achieved by providing pocket card hand-outs to delegates containing the main points, and a complimentary pocket notebook for additional points. On public seminars each delegate receives a complimentary video or DVD, and for in-house talks the client also receives a DVD set. This enables people to revisit the message, or parts of it at any time in the future. The videos/DVD's are edited versions of the talk recorded live.
The Winning Attitude, in it's seminar form, comprises two distinctive halves of approximately 75 minutes each. Each part can be delivered as a separate talk, but together they make up the Winning Attitude. But since the title of the talk does little to illustrate what is covered, here's a concise outline:
Part One: Just Remember The One Thing
Self belief - the foundation of a winning attitude
Values - the pillars upon which our behaviours are based
Mission - our personal reason "why?"
Success - how we deny ourselves, the mistakes we make in our quest for it, and the one thing we need to remember in order to live, achieve and sustain it.
Part Two: Six Steps to A Winning Attitude
Habits - How we acquire them, why bad habits drag us back, and how good habits uplift us
Conditioning - How to condition ourselves to develop habits that serve us
Change - why we fight it, and the beliefs necessary to facilitate change
Attitude - the power of a winning perspective
Resilience - how to keep to your game plan despite life's obstacles and distractions.
The Game Plan - putting it all together.
The response to the Winning Attitude has been overwhelming every time I've run it. This email just came in from East London after an in-house Winning Attitude talk on 22 April 2005:
Hi Paul
A belated thank you for the recent WINNING ATTITUDE seminar you presented for our Finance/IT teams. Feedback has been extremely positive and there is far more oomph in a lot of people! Thank you for helping them unleash their positives!
Kind regards Laura Nel Manager : Human Resources/Corporate Affairs Johnson & Johnson Consumer (Pty) Ltd
The Winning Attitude is offerred as an in-house talk for anything between 45 minutes and three hours. There is also a full day version referred to as the Winning Attitude Workshop.
When the talk is conducted as a public seminar, our winning seminar formula consists of a complimentary souvenir DVD called "Just Remember The One Thing!" (Part One of the Winning Attitude) in their goodie boxes to take home. For the morning seminars we serve a continental breakfast with tea, coffee and juices at the break, and for the evening seminars tea and coffee on arrival and a finger buffet with fruit juices at the extended break.
And here's my guarantee: This is my most booked talk ever. Any delegate who is not completely satisfied gets their money back - and gets to keep the DVD, and the refreshments are on me. No questions asked.
Here's the best of all: My seminars attract participants from a large range of businesses. Make sure you bring a fist full of business cards with you - the networking opportunities will be awesome!
